Description
Dreamcatchers are a cultural practice amongst Anishinaabeg (Ojibwe, Odawa, and Bodewadmi). The woven webbing is similar to that of a spider’s web. In the Anishinaabe worldview, spiders, like all beings, have an important role. If respected and honored, they will protect a person from nightmares.
Dreamcatchers have become popular in mainstream culture, which has led to them being mass produced. Many of these dreamcatchers are created without the teachings and stories that accompany this cultural practice and tool. Bead & Powwow Supply works with Indigenous artists to source real art, and support cultural revitalization. Our dreamcatchers are made by peoples who actually use this important tool and understand and respect the cultural teachings and significance.
Chey Kahgegab (Ojibwe) has been beading since he was a youth. An alumni of the Saginaw Chippewa Academy, Chey excelled in beading classes. He is known for his peyote beadwork, Christmas bulbs, and general reliability and speed in fulfilling orders.
